HMS Clipperbots News

Morgan Cuthbert shared the following information about the Clipperbots' exciting end to their season- congratulations to all!

The HMS Clipperbots traveled to Hampden Academy on February 15th for the Maine State VEX Competition.
After the initial qualification matches the Clipperbots held onto 2nd place out of 30 Teams, with a 6-1 win to loss set of matches. They placed ahead of 28 high school teams, (3 of them being our very own Yarmouth High School teams) and 1 other middle school, which is an amazing accomplishment!

In the alliance rounds we won our first quarterfinal match, but lost in the semifinals to Fatal Error, from United Technologies Center, who later won the event. For our second year of the program this was an amazing finish. We were anchored by our 8th graders, Tori Moore and Reed Oestreicher. Their leadership and calm under pressure will be missed next year.  Our other team members include Emmett Herr, Eli Anderson, Phil Bock, Jackson Rollins, Hannah Zimmerman and Sam Weinberg.  We look forward to these students returning next year, along with others who would like to join us.

As always we thank our parent coaches Mr. Moore and Mr. Weinberg!

The club will go on break until the end of March.

PTO Luncheon

A picture is worth a thousand words.
On Friday, January 31, the HMS PTO lead by Kathy Dettmann sponsored a mid-winter luncheon. It was truly appreciated by all the staff. Thank you.

Digital Learning Day comes to HMS!

Mike Arsenault shared the following, exciting information with our staff about Digital Learning Day. Megan Rice had the great idea of staff members sharing which tools they're already using, so teachers trying out a new tool will have others they can collaborate with. We're all looking forward to challenging ourselves, and working together on Wednesday.

Digital Learning Day is coming up on Wednesday (February 5th).

Digital Learning Day is about giving every child the opportunity to learn in a robust digital environment everyday, with the goal of success in college and a career. At HMS I view every day as Digital Learning Day. Your lessons routinely demonstrate this.

I'd like to challenge all staff members to volunteer to try a new tool with their students on Digital Learning Day this year. At the end of the day please share which tool you used and how it went for you (I'll send the survey out on February 5th). This share out should give other teachers ideas of tools they could use in their classes in the future. If you would like some ideas of new tools to use in the classroom visit the Tech Tools for the Classroom page of the HMS Staff IntraNET site. If you need any help with using your new tool with your students please see me.
